Agriculture
We have developed our agriculture business holdings over the last 10 years. Agriculture accounts for the largest contribution to our revenues. The are fundamental factors for having exposure to agriculture. Firstly, supply chain challenges still exist globally and will take several years to return to normal following the Covid-19 pandemic, this is likely to increase prices for agriculture produce and higher margins for agricultural producers. Secondly, global population especially in developing Countries is still growing rapidly, this is likely to increase demand for several years. Thirdly, global warming, climate change and extreme weather events, present opportunities and challenges for global food security and supply.

Over the last 5 years we have implemented vertical farming in some of our farms. Vertical farming incorporates controlled-environment agriculture farms. Vertical farming also provides protection and maintains optimal growing conditions throughout the development of the crop. Vertical farming as enabled us to have more harvests throughout the year, as farming is all done in temperature controlled, indoor environments, Vertical farming as also enabled us to produce because of the control over light, humidity and water consumption.
Sustainability is at the heart of our agriculture operations. We consistently and continuously assess our entire value chain, to enforce standards and identify areas of improvement. We reduced our reliance on pesticides and fertilizers and focus on natural processes. We have also planting hedgerows along field edges, this encourages pest predators such as birds and other animals into the area and keeps the number of pests in check, reducing the need for pesticides. We have also implemented other sustainable agriculture practices which includes;

-
Natural animal raising.
-
Crop rotation, or planting cover crops.
-
Urban agriculture.
-
Mulching and manual weed control.
-
Biodynamic farming.
-
Agroforestry and food forests.
